Transactions that Matter.

Summer continues with muted activity. July saw a few deals announced.

Korea remains a popular destination for hotel investment, although international investors so far focus almost exclusively on Seoul. That does not mean local investors sit idle.

  • Paradise Group - operator of the first Integrated Resort at Incheon - is looking to acquire a tower of the Grand Hyatt Incheon from Korean Airlines. Given the proximity to their flagship property, it would make sense should they need overflow capacity to support the casino. Korean Air heavily uses the Grand Hyatt for their flight crew accommodation.
  • Hanwha is looking to pick up suburban resort Paraspara in the north of Seoul, situated at the foot of the hills overlooking Gangbuk and the Blue House. Hanwha is taking advantage of a distress situation driven by owner's trouble in their Banyan Tree Busan project, which had a fire earlier this year. Also, their CEO was arrested for "Specific Economic Crimes".
  • Josun Group - currently franchisee, operator and lessee of the Four Points Myeongdong is looking to take an ownership stake together with a domestic investment partner. Noteworthy is the relatively high price, certainly north of what international buyers would want to pay.
